I have been reading all the threads in this forum. I dont have the cash right now for a fishing boat, but the idea of a yak seems awesome to me.
I am totally new to yaks, but of a fishing newbie too, but I am real athletic so I am sure I will be able to pick it up. I am no stranger to outdoors sports so I am no dummy when it comes to saftety.
I am by no means a large guy.
5'7 155-160 pounds.
I might be looking to getting a kayak this summer for fishing from and just cruising around in NJ.
First what is the difference between a sit on and a sit in. What are the benifits or cons for them?
Second what size yak would your recomend for some one my size. I am sure I can haul around a large yak, I hit the gym often, but I dont think strength is the only factor.

A sit-on is kinda like a surfboard with a seat attached. A sit-in is something you climb into.

A sit-in can hold water in the cockpit, while a sit-on has no comparable area.

It is generally acknowledged that sit-in designs require much more practice to operate safely.

Almost everyone agrees a sit-on is safer for a beginner.

You have a greater selection than most because of your weight (or lack thereof).

On the West Coast, more than half of the fishing kayaks are the Ocean Kayak "Scupper Pro TW". You should try one of these, and use it as the standard to compare others to. Wilderness Systems "Tarpon" is very popular locally.

Try 'em all, twice if necessary....you'll know when the right one comes along!

It's okay to ask my friend, the worst is when you stop asking question.
