I'm just new in this sport and still don't know that much, what I know are probably only some of the basic guidelines in kayaking. And since, some of my friends do this, I got to know some important skills too. I really love to do it by my own and not just watch other people enjoying their kayaks.

Just a simple question, I'm sure it will help me in doing this sport. What is the most important thing I should have in my mind in doing such sport?  kind of like the  whitewater kayaking techniques

Thanks in advance guys!

Kayaking might look really simple if you haven't tried it yet. Reality is before you should even try to do this on your own in large and shaky waters you must undergo a raining first. Kayaking in small passages of water could be a start. You should also know your limits and of course determine your paddling destination. You have to be very careful when you choose a route for your adventure. be aware that danger could just be lurking somewhere so you should be prepared all the time.

Don't you worry jmatthews. Everyone here is nice. For starters, it's good to keep reading the articles so you'll have ideas on kayaking how to's. Kayaking instructions, kayaking lesson, kayaking pictures, they're all here for you to look at and study.

Goodluck!

This is correct!

And for me, the first 2 in the list of whitewater kayaking techniques you need: Fitness & flexibility. Keep that in mind!

Next, you should know what to do with your gear & your body when you're out there kayaking.. Just paddle often and keep on practicing more sweep strokes every now & then..

thanks for the input guys.

right now I have my friends guiding me in the proper use of kayaking gear and also I'm reading magazines that will give me more knowledge in the sport. I think I have the necessary gear for kayaking, I really want to complete them soon.

That's good then! But never forget to review first the basic features of your kayak.
You don't really have to know the every technical skill there is. As long as you can sit down & move your arms with confidence, then you're good. You'll learn, for sure!
