HI!! since i started kayaking with my father & some friends, i've already been reading about water safety. I can't find too much info online. Because last week, on of our friends got into trouble, he fell out of the boat & the current pulled him out from the sandy beach then towards the rocks.. luckily, he was able to swim towards the rocks and managed to mount them safely.. what's the best thing to do as a swimmer in this situation? and as an onlooker, what should you do too?

hey stella! maybe you can ask the locals on that place about the currents & the rips. most paddlers will like it when they are being asked by someone new. so until you know about the beach & the tides, ask someone during every visit you make. it's good to take a course on kayaking basics but getting involved in a club is better!
also, a throwline is useful & learning how to use it is a great idea. it isnt rocket science though, & you can teach yourself & be guided by web tutorials. but it's still best to be in a club..
and i know it's hard.. but as an onlooker, NEVER panic! keep telling yourself to LOOK, THINK, ACT! Get trained and you'll learn some really good on the spot judgment for situations like those!
