Captain Paddles Army to Victory in the Waters
MONDAY, 25 FEBRUARY 2008
Thirty-year old Armed Forces captain Alex Burt won the white water canoeing competition and paddled the Army to victory over their rivals in the Navy and Air Force at the annual inter-service championships in Dumfries, Scotland.
According to Burt, he started canoeing at the age of seven and was already a keen canoeist even before joining the Army in 2000.
The course at the River Nith near Dumfries was over four miles long and combined fast-flowing white water, strewn with rocks, with calmer stretches swollen by heavy rain and melting snow.
