Carl Junction Firefighter Drowns in Kayak Accident

Firefighter Marion Cox, Jr. of the Carl Junction Fire District drowned while on a kayaking trip last Saturday. He was found trapped in a submerged kayak at the Center Creek at Joplin Street, just south of Carl Junction. The victim was rushed to the Freeman Hospital in Joplin.
According to reports, 51-year old Cox went kayaking with his son. The Carl Junction Fire District found the victim at around 1pm and removed his body from the water. Cox's son was not injured.
Cox was a Jasper County firefighter and an EMT with METS Ambulance Service in Joplin.
