Amateur filmmaker Isaiah Walters sent his entry to the 2008 Reel Paddling Film Festival. Dubbed as the “New Horizons the Uncharted Territory", the Owen Sound filmmaker’s creation will be shown along with six award-winning paddling films at The Roxy in Owen Sound.
This is also his first entry in the said festival. “It’s actually a climbing film,” Walters clarifies in a statement. He and Austrian Gretchen Faber made the eight-minute film about a Canadian mountaineering expedition in 2006.
Although the festival features paddling stories, local presenter Paul Matthies of Suntrail Source for Adventure said the film had been considered supposedly for the local showing of Banff film festival works in January. Since that was not pursued, they decided to try it during the paddling festival. “If we see an opportunity to showcase something that’s local, we take the opportunity,” Matthies added.
The other entries are winners in the third annual Reel Paddling Film Festival, which premiered in Toronto in early February.
