BRUNSWICK - Seaspray Kayaking will host the third annual Maine Kayak Fishing Tournament and will add more to it! The yearly tournament will be held on July 18 with Free Kayak Fishing Friday and will run until the 20th. The kayaking group promises another day of free seminars on kayaking, fishing, fly-tying, and other activities.
To accommodate most kayaking enthusiasts, the event devotes a specific division just for the kids. Scott Shea, owner of Seaspray Kayaking and the director of the Maine Kayak Fishing Tournament, said that the tournament also aims to promote kayak fishing to the youth.
Part of the event is a two-day kayak fishing tournament which will be held in the Mid-coast region. Children and seasoned anglers are to compete in catching the biggest striper in Sheepscot, Kennebec, Androscoggin, and New Meadows rivers.
According to Seaspray Kayaking, the activity is a catch-and-release tournament that benefits the Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife "Hooked on Fishing Program". This is a project of the Future Fisherman Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization.
Last year's Maine Kayak Fishing event will be aired later in the spring on the New England Sports Network (NESN).
